Schmith crowbars - tools with many applications
Crowbars are uncomplicated hand tools that are used not only in many areas of the construction industry, but also during amateur domestic work. They are great for carrying out dismantling work, pulling out nails or leveraging heavy objects and materials. In addition, breeches can be additionally beaten with a hammer to undermine various materials with greater ease.
Basic construction crowbars are shaped like a metal hexagonal bar with two, different ends and are made of steel. One end of the tool is flattened, while the other is curved and rounded. This design makes it possible to easily pick up various objects even when the gap between them and the ground is very narrow. In addition, the curved end very often has a wedge-shaped notch, which makes it possible to pull out large nails quickly and conveniently.
Construction breaches are often used during paving, carpentry and repair and finishing works. With their help you can easily and quickly remove floor panels, dismantle furniture or pull pins from walls and floors. On the construction site crowbars with extractor can successfully replace pincers.
Types and types of construction breeches
Crowbars can be divided according to their use and construction, which, although they share a lot of common features, can differ significantly from each other. Due to these differences, breeches are divided into:
- Universal crowbars - designed for both professional and domestic use. They work great for pulling out nails, disassembling various components and other simple work. Universal crowbars range from 300 mm to 800 mm in length and are very often covered with red, blue or black lacquer, which prevents them from corroding.
- Construction crowbars - are much thicker and longer than their universal counterparts. They are designed for construction dismantling work and tamping down massive objects and materials. Their length oscillates between 1000 mm and 1600 mm. Due to their massive construction, construction breeches rarely have a wedge for removing nails.
- Carpenter's crowbars - these tools are characterized by a square or round, not very long, ranging from 300 mm to 1000 mm. They have the thinnest undermining section of all types of crowbars, so they allow more precise work. Carpenter's crowbars often have a hole in the rounded part, which helps position boards and beams by lifting them with carpenters' nails.
- Paving crowbars - this category defines the most massive and thickest types of breeches, which are often equipped with one straight and one gently curved and flattened end. They are designed for the most demanding jobs, such as pounding, levering and pulling out paving stones and flagstones. Paving breakers can have a perforated structure, which prevents your hands from slipping off them.
What to pay attention to when choosing a crowbar?
The choice of a brecha should be justified by the type of work that will be performed with its help. As in the case of axes, lightweight carpentry crowbars will not work well when working with paving stones, and heavy paving crowbars will be unwieldy when removing nails. For this reason, when choosing a tool, pay attention to:
- Weight - lighter crowbars are easier to handle, and therefore allow you to work longer, minimizing fatigue. On the other hand, low-weight crowbars will have lower strength relative to their more massive counterparts.
- Length - the longer the tool, the more leverage it provides, which is a key factor in leveraging heavy materials and pulling out long and thick nails.
- Material - a key feature, responsible for the tool's durability and resistance to damage. Most often, breeches are made of steel, which is characterized by high strength. To further protect crowbars from corrosion, they are very often covered with an additional coating.
