Schmith masonry scratchers for even distribution of water

A masonry scrat cher is an indispensable tool not only for bricklayers, but also for do-it-yourselfers and people involved in various types of wall and floor coverings. They are used to moisten the surface before applying mortar or plaster to ensure proper adhesion and the highest possible durability of the bond between the material and the substrate. These tools, are designed to ensure even distribution of water or priming emulsion on the surface before the next stages of masonry and plastering work.

The masonry brushes have a simple design that makes them easy to keep clean after work. This translates into a very long and trouble-free service life for these tools, making them highly valued among both professionals and amateurs involved in renovation and construction. After finishing work, the dripper is enough to rinse well with water and shake, getting rid of any residual liquid. Thanks to such action, it will all the time look and serve as it should.

Types of masonry sprinklers

Sturdy and ergonomic handle and durable construction are common features of all high quality drippers. Different models differ only in the material from which the handle is made, wood or plastic, and the type of bristles, which are divided into:

  • coconut bristle - stiff and dense, does not deform even under considerable pressure and during intensive use, and at the same time is characterized by flexibility and gentleness for the treated surface, preventing it from damage during work. Coconut fiber spotters are mainly suitable for outdoor use, due to their tendency to splash the applied liquid.
  • Nylon bristles - this type is characterized by high elasticity, so it perfectly retains water and allows splash-free coverage of walls. Brushes with nylon bristles are ideal for use indoors and in areas where it is required to maintain a high level of cleanliness while working.
  • Mixed br istles - the combination of coconut bristles in the inner part of the sprinkler and a cover made of nylon bristles, make the tool have the features of a brush with coconut bristles and the splash protection provided by the nylon fiber frame. It is the most popular and versatile type in use.

When and how to use a masonry brush?

The durability of plaster and wall coverings depends mostly on the proper preparation of the substrate. To ensure the best possible adhesion, make sure that the wall surface is even, free of dirt, dust and brittle layers with poor adhesion. After such preparation of the substrate, wet it with clean water or priming emulsion using a masonry sprinkler. Performing all the above steps will ensure high quality and durability of the plaster.

Masonry scratchers are very often confused with bench-type brushes . They have practically the same structure, but differ dramatically in application and type of bristles. Bench brushes are designed for painting large areas of concrete, wood, plastic and for painting plaster. With their help, you can accurately and quickly cover large areas with emulsions, acrylic, latex and oil paints. They also work very well when applying glue under wallpaper. Although bench-type brushes have a multitude of applications, they will not work well when covering surfaces with water, because they do not have the appropriate bristles for this purpose.
